My mask slips into place, requiring a little more effort than usual as I attempt to lock away all of the nasty feelings that have slipped free within the last twenty-four hours. Iâm struggling to rein it all in, but emotion has zero place here.
Nothing could have prepared me for the Sinnerâs Mark men. Not years of honing my body and my technique through every martial art available. Not hours of meditation. Not any of the research Iâve done to advance my understanding of psychology and the inner workings of the human mind.
They areâ¦unexpected, and in my line of work, that could have deadly consequences.
Escaping my temporary husband and his crew could have been a tricky affair. It was sheer luck that I ran into Rock at the Sinnersâ clubhouse. But with one problem solved, another quickly presented itself. Two, actually. Firstâgetting away from dear olâ Dad. The old man is fucking chatty, so by the time I got on Ettaâs bike and made it back to her apartment, Iâd already lost two hours. Taping the four sheets of pristine white paper containing a very lengthy list of sins to the cement wall in front of me, my eyes scan all of the ways Iâll make him pay. My mind finally begins to shift gears as it eagerly anticipates letting some of our demons loose.
Even at fifteen, broken and raw, drowned by my nightmares, there was a part of me that flourished in the darkness. I was the daughter of a ruthless MC President after all. Had seen more shit than any teenaged girl had a right to. I took hold of the demons threatening to consume me with both hands, refusing to give in to my fears. And when faced with my enemies, I let the demons fuel my need to make them pay. To make them suffer the way I suffered. All while my father looked on, holding himself back because he knew that I needed to do it myself.
With the threat gone, I left the club. Rock didnât even argue. Aunt Charlie took me in, gave me the tools I needed to cope with what had happened to me. It took me a few years to
